I’m Muktadir Rashid Romeo.

Muktadir is a graduate of the University of Dhaka, where he studied international relations. He has extensive experience covering the rise of Islamist extremism in Bangladesh and its impact on the country, including the murders of atheist bloggers and secular activists, the ISIS attack on Holey Artisan Bakery, and the Rana Plaza building collapse.

His work has been recognized with numerous accolades, including the 22nd Human Rights Press Awards and the Global Shining Light Award from the Global Investigative Journalism Network. In addition, he has been a fellow with the Chevening South Asia Journalism Programme, the International Visitor Leadership Program of the US Department of State, the Global Investigative Journalism Network, and the International Centre for Journalists.

Muktadirs bylines have appeared in numerous prestigious publications including the Wall Street Journal, VOA, The Telegraph, VICE News, and Al Jazeera, and he has contributed to in-depth research on Bangladeshi politics, the countrys security apparatus, growing extremism, and human rights abuses. As a member of several journalist bodies in Dhaka and an advocate for press freedom and digital rights, Muktadir is committed to using his platform to bring about positive change and hold those in power accountable.
